The wool is short and dense, so it cushions a hard base and springs back instead of matting flat. Medical tanning also means this baby sheepskin rug can be washed on a cool wool cycle when it needs it, which is the practical difference between a baby skin and a decorative hide. The tanning leaves a warmer, creamier base tone than a decorative sheepskin has, and because every skin is its own animal, tone and shape vary a little from one to the next.

Decorative hides are tanned for looks. This one is tanned the medical way, which is a different process: no harsh residue left in the skin, no smell, and it can be washed. It also leaves a warmer, creamier base tone than a decorative tanning does. You notice it most in the natural shades, and it is one of the ways you can tell a baby skin from a decorative one.
Soft now, still soft in a year
Short wool does not flatten the way a long-wool skin does, and it hides everyday dirt far better. Shake it out, air it, brush it now and then, and it keeps its bounce. When it really needs it, wash it.

How to care for it
Day to day, shake it out and air it. Spot-clean small marks with a damp cloth and a little wool detergent, then let it dry naturally.
When it needs a proper clean, the medical tanning means you can wash it. Use a wool program at 30 C / 86 F with a wool detergent, no fabric softener and no bleach. Never tumble dry it. Dry it flat and away from radiators or direct sun, then brush the wool gently once it is dry to bring it back up.

Can I use it in the stroller or the bassinet?
Yes, that is what it is made for. It lines a stroller, a pram base or a bassinet, and the dense wool takes the hardness out of the surface underneath.
For sleep, follow your pediatrician. Current US safe-sleep guidance is that babies sleep on a firm, flat surface with nothing soft under them, so most parents use a sheepskin for supervised time instead: on the floor, under a play gym, or in the stroller while you are pushing it.

Will my baby get too warm on it?

Does it shed?
A new skin can let go of a few loose fibres in the first weeks. Shake it outside a couple of times and it settles down.
